Union Structure
Members
The most important part of this union is our members. Every level of the organization exists to serve our members interests and needs. Our members vote on the contract, determining the wages and fringe benefits for the work they do. They also vote to elect the leadership of the union. There are many ways for interested members to get involved.
Locals
The way that people become members is to join a Local Union (for a list of our Locals, click here). Any member of the union can attend monthly meetings and discuss and vote on the issues of importance to our union and our industry. Many Locals have Volunteer Organizing Committees, and all Locals participate in a wide variety of social and community events and volunteer efforts.
The members of the Local also elect Local Union Officers, and Delegates to the Regional Council (each Delegate represents 100 members).
Regional Council
The Northern California Carpenters Regional Council provides administrative oversight to 29 Local Unions in Northern California. The Delegates meet quarterly to make the decisions governing the union in our region. The Delegates also elect the Council’s Executive Committee, including the Executive Officer.
International
The Regional Council is affiliated with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. This international union represents more than half a million construction workers in the United States and Canada. The Union is led by a General President and General Executive Board, who are elected at an International Convention held every five years. The Delegates to the General Conventions are elected by the members. |
