New welding facility opens at Hayward Training Center

As an additional, first-class welding facility, the Hayward Shop joins Pleasanton in providing a wider service to members within the greater Bay Area. Located in the former Drywall/Lather's Training Center at 23217 Kidder Street in Hayward, this shop is closer than Pleasanton for members from San Francisco, the Peninsula, and the North Bay.

Got Cool New Stuff!

Re-built from the ground-up, the Hayward facility boasts a lot of interesting new features. Topping the list is a newer style of welding booth called the Clean Air America™ WeldStation5, and our facility has the largest installation of this product on the West Coast. These welding stations have individual, on-board HEPA air filtration systems, which back-draw and process the weld fumes and return the cleaned air into the room.

In addition, each station accommodates an individual welder and includes a roomy, well-lit work surface, articulating fixtures and stands to handle coupons in all positions, a full complement of hand and grinding tools, and a state-of-the-art, multi-process welding machine that has the ability to patch-in wire feeders and handle a host of welding devices and capabilities that will come online in the future.

Hours of Operation (Confusing)

In the first quarter of operation (Jan–March 2012), we'll be open according to two patterns. The first pattern will be Mondays through Thursdays, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, during the weeks we are conducting scheduled Apprenticeship welding classes.

The second pattern is during the weeks without any scheduled Apprenticeship welding classes. In those weeks, we're open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 8 am to 4:30 pm, and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, which will provide some evening welding opportunities.

If these days and times seem confusing when they're written-out ... they really are!

Probably the biggest deal about Hayward is that it will match every capability we have in Pleasanton. This includes our ability to accommodate any welding skill level, from the beginner to the advanced, along with providing safety and skills advancement instruction at each level. Of course, we will also offer the full range of welding certifications (SMAW, FCAW, TIG, MIG, etc.) from light gauge up through structural plate and pipe.
