"We look forward to volunteering our time to help in the communities in which we live. Our members are always willing to give their time to great events like the Senior HIP Day event. It’s exciting to see how much the seniors appreciate the work we do." Working in partnership with the city of Vacaville, volunteers install grab bars, handrails, lever door handles, smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors, toilet modifiers, hand-held showerheads and tub or shower benches. In addition to the basic items, sometimes carpenters get special requests on site, such as installing and adjusting doors, repairing damaged sheetrock, installing weather stripping, repairing door thresholds, cleaning roof gutters, repairing decks and fences, mowing lawns, replacing screens and much more. Helping people remain
in their homes and bringing
a program like Senior HIP
to Vacaville is a
collaborative effort.
"Every year this event grows and grows," says Vacaville local Rowlett. "We look forward to helping at even more homes next year!" Helping people remain in their homes and bringing a program like Senior HIP to Vacaville is a collaborative effort, said Cyndi Johnston, Director of the City of Vacaville’s Housing and Redevelopment Department. "We are so pleased to have such great partners who care about helping our seniors and disabled stay safe and happy in their homes. It would be virtually impossible to run this program without their assistance." HIP, HIP hooray for the great volunteers from Local 180 who pitched in! |
