Nearly 800 rank-and-file members have stepped up to fight for their future by joining the Carpenters In Action (CIA) committees at their Local Union. Every month hundreds of CIA members are participating in organizing trainings to learn the organizing skills and tactics.

Most importantly, CIA members are putting these ideas and skills into action by joining the NCCRC’s Organizing Department in the fight against anyone who attacks our living standards.

The Organizing Department is actively engaged in 15 campaigns throughout Northern California.

These targets are major non-union general contractors who undercut our hard-fought union wages and conditions. We have already had success in taking work away from these targets and creating jobs for our members. However, we will not be satisfied until these bad players cease attacking our living standards. In order to achieve these goals as quickly as possible, we need your help, and the help of all rank-and-file members of the union.

Make your voice heard in this important struggle and join the Carpenters In Action committee at your Local Union. Contact your Local, or fill out the contact form in this paper, cut it out and mail it to the Regional Council at 265 Hegenberger Road, Suite 200 Oakland, CA 94621. Standing together as one we will take back our industry and win this fight for respect. The key to stronger contracts and more work opportunities is to control our industry. Joining the CIA is the first step in this struggle. Like generations before us, if we stick together we will be triumphant.

BOYCOTT!
The boycott, or refusal to patronize certain stores or products, is an effective tool in Labor’s toolbox. You can help out by boycotting the following businesses.

Boycott Kohl’s
We are asking all members to boycott Kohl’s, in light of their practice of hiring contractors with questionable labor policies. Visit the website (www.kohls-boycott.com) and sign the online petition:

"I support the Carpenters that build Kohl's stores. I pledge not to shop at Kohl's until the giant retailer supports our country's economic recovery plan by using contractors that pay the Area Standard Wages & Benefits and participate in bonafide, state-certified apprenticeship training programs. The productivity and future welfare of those workers, their families, and the community depend on it."

Boycott Starbucks
You don’t have to give up coffee, just find another place to get it, please. Boycott Starbucks until the company pays attention to how their contractors treat the workers who build their stores.
