Carpenters build sports booth at McClymondsStudents at McClymonds Educational Complex in West Oakland will get their game updates from a new announcement booth this year—thanks to local carpenters. Local 713 members partnered with Nancy Smith Construction and Turner Group to design and reconstruct the sports announcement booth at McClymonds, Oakland’s third oldest high school. Established in 1915, McClymonds has been providing academic and sports opportunities to urban youth, giving them the chance to grow and sustain a positive lifestyle in sometimes challenging surroundings. Carpenters from Local 713, Nancy Smith Construction and Turner Group Construction partnered to design and build the new announcers’ booth at McClymonds High School, Oakland’s third oldest high school. Historically, students at McClymonds Educational Complex have been excellent performers in sports, including football. As a result, the school’s athletic complex is a vital component of local morale—for students, players and their fans in the community. Local carpenters felt that a new announcement booth would provide a heightened spirit with increased participation in sports, improved camaraderie and added dedication to academics. As Bay Area organizations dedicated to giving back to the community, Carpenters Local 713, Turner Group Construction and Nancy Smith Construction are pleased to support institutions such as McClymonds Educational Complex as it supports and educates our leaders of tomorrow. ![]() The volunteers from Turner Group Construction (front, r to l): Lagon Turner, Len Turner, Lance Turner and Fred McKay; (back, r to l): Kurt, the head coach of McClymonds High football team and the rest of the team. |
